Objectives and Projects

Our objectives are:

- To help meet the costs of educational material (exercise books, pencils, pens, rubbers, schoolbags, etc.) for as many schools as possible in Myanmar, formerly Burma, and the free schools of the Monasteries where they lack basic school equipment.

- To construct or refurbish schools wherever needed.

We are currently focusing on Burma, but as soon as we have media and local volunteers in any other country, we will also start to extend our help over there.

Helping them in their education will change their lives.

Give them the opportunity to have a basic education and give them a better future.

The development in these towns is impossible without giving the children the basic education that they deserve. Without basic education, they will never be able to achieve economical, social or health development. Education will allow them to change their own situations as well as the situations of their families and the towns in which they live.

Basic education helps to reduce poverty rates.

Registration costs for a child in a public school in Burma costs more or less 10 American dollars, approximately 8 euros. A contribution of 12 exercise books and 6 pencils per child (enough for one school year) costs 8 American dollars in Myanmar.

In Myanmar, we rely on the indispensable and selfless input of volunteers from our organization and several men and woman in Burma. They are in charge of: first verifying the exact number of children that need the materials, distributing the materials to these children, and then maintaining site control.

For the free schools of the Monastery, we donate the necessary basic school materials and help the volunteer teachers.

April 2012. New Project.- Construction of the school Man Pyay

Today, we are pleased to announce that the Escolaridad Solidaria NGO will be taking on a new project. We are going to construct a school in Burma (Myanmar) called Man Pyay, situated in Twenta Township Yangon Division.

We have been distributing school materials to this school for the last two years where approximately 200 children go.  You may recognise from the pictures that: “if within poverty you can talk of major poverty, this school is the highest form of poverty”.

This school was manually constructed with bamboo canes. Unfortunately, this winter, the town has suffered storms and high winds, which have damaged the school.

We are going to help construct the new school and help by 50% with a local NGO in Burma called Compassionate Hands. This local NGO has been collaborating with us in other projects. They contributed with the help of doctors when we were distributing the school material. They have carried out a medical examination on each child of every school we went to. They always help us in all we ask for.

The total budget for the construction of the new school is 20,000 USD (approximately 16,000€). Both ourselves and the local NGO will contribute 50% of the construction cost.

For Escolaridad Solidaria, this is a big challenge because, as you may know, we do not apply for public subsidies. Our financing only comes from the contribution of all collaborators and from some fundraising activities that we organize and notebooks that we sell. However, all of our efforts are worthwhile. We are sure we can achieve this challenge, as these children deserve to have a decent school. We cannot expect it to be a school like here in Spain, but for them this will mean a lot.

At the end of February the school year in Burma finishes, so now is the time to start the construction of this new school and to have it ready for June.

We will keep you updated on the construction of the school.

Thank you for of all your efforts and we hope that this new project will fill you with joy and personal satisfaction.

NOVEMBER 2010.-

Thanks to all of your efforts with our First Project of school material donations to 9 schools in Burma, we wish to inform you that:

Firstly, we have heard on the news that two important things occurred in this country. On the 7th of November, general elections turned out with the expected result: the party currently in power won the elections and a few days later the leader of the opposing party Suu Kyi was released after having been in house arrest for many years.

Secondly, some days before on the 22nd and 23rd of October, a cyclone battered the south-west area of Burma in the state of Rakhine.

For political reasons, Internet and telephone access were cut off for 15 days. The whole country has been under strict control. Our collaborators could not work in normal conditions and some activities we wanted to carry out have been impossible to achieve, but they, together with many other people have immediately started to help getting food and medicine to this damaged area of the country.

One of the schools in the state of Rakhine has suffered lots of damage. It was proposed to include this school “Shwe Zedi Monastic Education School” as the tenth school for donations of school equipment for the next year. This school has 600 children from preschool up to grade 11 (in the last two grades, the number of pupils is minimum).

We wish to donate school equipment this year once again such as pencil sharpeners, rubbers, rulers and school bags as well as donations of notebooks and pencils which are the most important. Due to reasons mentioned before, we are unsure as to whether we’ll have time to do so before the end of the school year in February. We’ll communicate new events later on.

FIRST PROJECT –  SCHOOL EQUIPMENT MYANMAR.

April 2010.- After several months of work, we have extended our goals to 9 schools. We hope to help 1500 children thanks to the support given by new Collaborators in Escolaridad Solidaria ONG to satisfy the ever-increasing needs of Burma. Register yourself as Collaborator. Your Collaboration is very important to us!
